Worms
Overview
Worms are self-replicating malware that uses a network to send copies of itself to other nodes (computer terminals on the network). Unlike a virus, worms do not attach themselves to existing programs. Instead, the goal of a worm is to infect as many computers as possible by exploiting security vulnerabilities on unprotected computers.
Worms Threat PC Security
Worms are one of the most common and dangerous threats to PC security. Even without a payload worms can cause significant consumption of computers resources and network bandwidth, therefore making the computer and network slow. A very common payload for the worms is to install a backdoor in the victim’s computer, thus allowing remote access to the victim’s computer by computer hackers.
Securing Your PC Against Worms
Worms spread by exploiting the vulnerabilities of the operating system. Hackers are increasingly developing worms with large numbers of variants making it very difficult if not impossible for the traditional signature based anti-virus programs to detect them.
How NovaShield Can Protect Your PC from Worms and Their Variants
NovaShield Anti-Malware is a next generation behavior-based, signature-less technology. NovaShield is probably the most effective way to detect and remove worms since it recognizes malware based on its behavior rather than by signatures. NovaShield knows exactly what files and registry items were created by the worms and can remove these by-products in addition to removing the threat itself.
